Marco VanderMass B.E.S, B.Arch, OAA, LEED APP, is passionate about understanding the power of design, Marco embraces the architect’s role in complete community building. From low- to high-rise, he is an invaluable resource for multi-unit residential and mixed-use commercial building design.
Growing up in the Netherlands provided Marco with exposure to city living and an appreciation of urban culture. The experience also gave him an acute understanding of urban density and the effect that it has on a community.
Marco’s personal approach to design has always been a practical one-focus on primary concerns like performance, comfort, and beauty, rather than any other orthodoxies. In approaching the challenges of ever-changing building code regulations he returns to previous experiences in yacht design and healthy off-the-grid home construction. In that process, the appropriate materials and systems were carefully chosen, and manufacturing and construction of the product meant combining custom design with industrial design.
Marco pursues his passion to utilize the recent changes to Ontario Building Code in favour of six storey mid-rise wood-frame construction within Urban Growth Centres while advocating for taller wood structures, mass timber, design for manufacturing, hybrid off-site construction and new typologies.
